Chicago Congressman Luis Gutierrez, a national leader on U.S. immigration policy and Chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, will be in northern Ohio this week campaigning on behalf of Congressman Dennis Kucinich in his race for the newly created 9th District seat.

“I need Dennis Kucinich on my side in Congress to continue our efforts to make sure that our children can receive a great education and go on to make important contributions to our culture, our people, and our nation,” said Gutierrez, the first Latino elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Midwest.

Gutierrez represents a diverse Congressional district that is home to large and established communities of immigrants from Eastern Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere. He worked closely with Kucinich to pass the historic DREAM Act in 2010, and will be attending forums in Lorain and Toledo to explain the legislation and answer constituent questions. Kucinich’s primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, voted against the Dream Act.
