CHICAGO (AP) – A Field Museum anthropologist has been named to lead the Latino Cultural Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Rosa Cabrera has been a senior urban anthropology manager at the museum since 2000. Pending board approval, she’ll start at UIC on April 3.
Cabrera has a doctorate in anthropology and a bachelor of arts in design from UIC.
At the Field Museum, she was director of the Cultural Connections program, a partnership of more than 25 ethnic museums, cultural centers and historical societies in Chicago.
She says she hopes to turn the Latino Cultural Center into “a unique public forum (and) active player in civic life.”
UIC is the largest university in Chicago with 27,000 students.
